      <abstract>
        <p>The article aims to quantify the dynamics of the area and volume of the Chernorechenskoe Reservoir (the main water supply of Sevastopol). The study relies on a comprehensive analysis of Sentinel-2 optical satellite data (164 images) with a spatial resolution of 10 m for 2015‒2026 to develop and test an automatic algorithm for determining the water surface area, based on a normalized difference water index with adaptive threshold values for different seasons. The obtained water surface areas are integrated with a bathymetric model to calculate the reservoir volume. The obtained results are compared with MERRA-2 precipitation reanalysis data. The minimum values of the reservoir volume were observed in January 2021 (7.4 million m³ with an area of 178.1 hectares) after the low-water year of 2020, and also in September 2025. The maximum volume during the study period did not exceed 45.7 million cubic meters, which is 23% less than the design usable volume. A positive correlation was found between the precipitation amount and reservoir area, taking into account the inertia of the hydrological system. The developed methodology can be used to monitor other reservoirs in the region.</p>
