      <abstract>
        <p>Based on the data from a series of expeditions conducted in 2008–2019, the structure of the total suspended matter concentration field in the areas of underwater municipal wastewater discharges was analyzed. The linear scale of their influence was assessed. The regularities of the spread of domestic wastewater under three types of background water column stratification were considered. It was found that in the studied coastal areas, the field of the analyzed value is extremely heterogeneous. On the sea surface, against the background of low natural concentration, separate spots with concentrations tens of times higher than the surrounding background were observed. The bulk of suspended matter in the discharge areas accumulated in the 0–7 m layer. In subsurface waters, local maxima, as well as isolated lenses with low salinity, were noted in the structure of the field under consideration. Anthropogenic suspended matter spread over a distance of 0.4–1.5 miles from the discharge points. Known regularities of the distribution of wastewaters from deep-sea outlets, determined by the stratification of the water column, were confirmed: free penetration to the surface in a homogeneous environment, predominantly horizontal transport in the presence of a seasonal thermocline, and release to the sea surface in a wind-driven upwelling situation against the background of a developed seasonal thermocline.</p>
