Abstract
Geological and lithological conditions of the Sevastopol region are considered in connection with the landslide hazard problem. Statistical data on landslides are given. According to long-term observations for certain regions, their modern dynamics are given. It is shown that at present the landslides stability is determined by abrasion in the tongue and by constant surcharges as a result of collapses in the head parts. An anthropogenic factor also plays an important role (soaking slopes due to watering, leaks, and lack of sewage). Natural and anthropogenic factors have a cumulative effect, and therefore spontaneous stabilization of landslides in natural conditions is unlikely. A set of measures is proposed to justify a working draft of detailed engineering protection of the coast.
